VIVIEN LABATON

Vivien Labaton is director of the Third Wave Foundation, the only national organization for young women between the ages of 15 and 30. She is the founding staff person of the organization, which has a membership of over 5,000 young women across the country. During her tenure, Third Wave has grown from a fledgling organization to one that is increasingly recognized as the voice of young women’s needs. In the past three years, Third Wave has implemented a Leadership Training Initiative for young women and men; disbursed over $200,000 in grants to young women nationally in the areas of reproductive rights, economic empowerment, organizing and advocacy, and higher education; and has conducted public education campaigns on a range of issues, including social security, voter registration, philanthropic education, and women’s health. Ms. Labaton has spoken publicly on issues ranging from social security to reproductive rights to philanthropy, and has been featured on CNN’s Inside Politics, Oxygen’s Trackers and Pure Oxygen, PBS’s To The Contrary, and the Washington Post’s Her Time online. Her writing has appeared in Ms. Magazine, online at Feminist.Com, and has been anthologized in For Women Only and the forthcoming Feminist Visions. For the past four years, Vivien has also worked as a research associate to Gloria Steinem. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of The Women’s Funding Network and the Advisory Board of Girlsource.
