ROBERT
LIEBERMAN
Robert
Lieberman is an Associate Professor of Political Science and
Public Affairs at Columbia University. His book Shifting the
Color Line: Race and the American Welfare State, published by
Harvard University Press, won the Lionel Trilling Book Award for
best book by a Columbia faculty member, an honorary mention for
outstanding book by the Gustavus Myers Program for the Study of
Bigotry and Human Rights in North America, and the President's Book
Award of the Social Science History Association.. Professor Liebermans
research interests are in American political development, race and
politics, and social welfare policy and the welfare state. His work
has appeared in the American Political Science Review and
Social Science History, as well as an edited volume on race
in American politics. He has received fellowships from the National
Science Foundation and the Mellon Foundation, and has been a visiting
fellow at the Center of Domestic and Comparative Policy Studies
at Princeton. Professor Lieberman hold a PhD and an MA in Political
Science from Harvard University, and a BA in Political Science from
Yale University.
