A. FRIAR
Maureen A.
Friar is executive director of the Supportive Housing Network
of New York, a coalition of not-for-profit agencies that develop
and manage supportive housing for low-income and formerly homeless
New Yorkers. In the past eight years, she has led the growth of
the Supportive Housing Network from a membership of 35 agencies
operating 4,000 units of housing to over 150 agencies managing over
18,000 units of housing statewide. In 1998, the Supportive Housing
Network launched the New York City AIDS Housing Network, which has
become a prominent voice in the city advocating for the housing
needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS. She was a Charles H. Revson
Fellow on the Future of the City of New York at Columbia University
from 1999-2000. Maureen earned her A.B. at Brown University and
a Masters of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley.
Before assuming her current position with the SHN, Ms. Friar was
the development director for Catholic Charities in San Francisco
and a campaign headquarters manager and community organizer for
Sunne McPeak's campaign for California State Senate.
