JEFFREY M. STONECASH

Jeffrey M. Stonecash received his BA in Political Science and Economics from Muskingum College, his first MA, in Economics, from the University of Virginia, and his second MA and his PhD, both in Political Science, from Northwestern University.

He currently serves as Professor-in-Residence for the New York State Assembly Internship Program and also teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School. Professor Stonecash has published Politics, Professionalism, and Urban Services: The Police, with P.F. Nardulli, (1981), and American State and Local Politics (1995). He has also edited and contributed to Governing New York State. He has also published articles in the American Political Science Review, American Politics Quarterly, International Journal of Public Opinion, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Party Politics, Public Budgeting and Finance, Publius, Social Science History, and Western Political Quarterly, and in several edited books. He recently completed a study of the increasing role of state government in New Jersey from 1950 to the present, and a study of the role of class voting in American politics since the 1950s.

Professor Stonecash has also conducted various polling and interview studies, and has prepared many consulting reports at the request of organizations both in and out of New York State.

Dr. Stonecash specializes in state and urban politics, intergovernmental relations, and political parties. His research focuses on parties and their role in shaping debates about public policy.
