The Rockefeller Institute is hosting a series of federalism symposia on The

The Century Foundation is launching a new listserv for young progressives. The listserv will provide an opportunity for online dialogue along with announcements of opportunities for young liberals. Democracy Matters, a non-partisan nonprofit organization of students and professors working on campuses across the country to educate people about the role of money in politics and its impact on democracy, will be hiring part-time, paid interns for the 2003-2004 academic year. Students will set up Democracy Matters chapters, organize Teach-ins, train students, lobby and educate elected officials, among other activities. • Applications are available for the 2004 Andrew W. Mellon Foundation/Vera Institute of Justice Postdoctoral Fellowship on Race, Crime and Justice. The fellowship encourages new scholars of diverse backgrounds to work and publish in this important field. One fellowship is awarded each year for a two-year residency at the Vera Institute in New York. Fellows receive a generous annual salary + benefits and research and travel allowances to pursue a scholarly project of their own design while gaining experience in policy-oriented research and writing. Applicants must have completed a doctorate within seven years of applying for the fellowship or be completing it by Summer 2004. Applications are due October 24, 2003, with the residency to start in Summer or Fall 2004. THE PACE UNIVERSITY CENTER FOR DOWNTOWN NEW YORK VISITING SCHOLAR FELLOWSHIP
Pace University’s Center for Downtown NY invites application for the visiting scholar fellowship. Journalists, researchers, scholars, and students who are studying the 9-11 terrorist attacks and the aftermath are eligible. The fellowship will provide office space for three to six months, information technology access, library services, etc. Those interested should submit a detailed description of their research needs, and an explanation of why having office space would be helpful, and the expected result of their research (journal article, etc.). Fellows will be expected to give one public lecture related to their work. The first available date for the fellowship is 12/1/2003. • The Center for the Study of Philanthropy is pleased to announce two unique fellowship opportunities: a new Senior International Fellows Program for fall 2003 and the spring 2004 International Fellows Program. The first is a pilot program for senior Third-Sector practitioners from outside the United States. The second program is for younger scholar/practitioners working in the NGO sector internationally.

The Coro New York Leadership Center's program Leadership New York seeks mid-career executives from the private, public, and non-profit sectors who are committed to strengthening New York City. You will gain hands-on experience learning about the City’s most pressing issues: economic development, education, race relations, public safety and more. Meet with city leaders, develop new skills, work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and become part of a network that is making change happen!

The Century Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2003 Century Institute Summer Program, a leadership development and civic engagement program for college undergraduates. Directed by Princeton University Professor Paul Starr, CISP will be held from June 29 through July 12 on the Williams College Campus. The New York Union Semester Program is currently seeking applicants for its Spring and Fall  2003 programs--  Applications are available now online!  Now in its third year, Union Semester is a unique "semester away" program is offered by Queens College/CUNY which provides students with a hands on opportunity to intern with a labor union or affiliated organization in New York City while taking courses in labor studies.  Students earn 12 to 16 credits, receive a $210 weekly stipend and are awarded a $1,700 tuition scholarship.  Among unions and organizations currently hosting interns are UNITE! 23-25, the Transit Workers Union, the National Employment Law Project and Jobs with Justice . • "Crossing Divides: New Common Ground on Poverty and Economic Security." From: Demos. By Tammy Draut, David Callahan and Corrinna Hawkes This report examines four cases of policymaking during the 1990s-EITC, IDAs, CHIP, and Empowerment Zones-that hint at emerging common ground among liberal and conservative policymakers. The report also discusses areas of
