What
is the New York Progressive Network
The
New York Progressive Network (NYPN) is a consortium of organizations
and individuals working to advance a progressive vision of public
affairs for New York City. NYPN shares information among members,
enhances ongoing research and activist efforts, and encourages
new alliances among the diverse members of New York's progressive
policy community. NYPN offers new solutions to challenges facing
New York City as it enters the new millennium.
NYPN
facilitates cooperative research and political action through the
following activities.
Program Meetings. NYPN sponsors regular meetings on topics
of interest to members. Recent meetings discussed job creation
strategies in New York and the remedial education debate at CUNY;
future subjects include the role of labor in a new progressive
politics in New York, and campaign finance reform alternatives.
Inter-Organization
Website. The organization is launching a comprehensive,
user-friendly site at www.nypn.org. The site features information
about member organizations including publications and other products,
upcoming public events, and organizational objectives. The website
includes a listserve for member queries and announcements.
Media
Relations. The NYPN website includes an online directory
of public policy experts available for media interviews and commentary
plus analyses and syntheses of reports of interest to journalists
covering urban affairs. The site provides an e-mail query service
for journalists. NYPN will host press conferences announcing new
products and activities of members.
Technical Assistance for Members. NYPN assists
members in using the new media to enhance research and organizing.
The Network provides workshops on public relations and media strategies
and on substantive research topics.
Developing
New Progressive Leaders. NYPN works with member organizations
to develop the next generation of progressive leadership through
internship and apprentice opportunities.
