Unequal Slices: A Study of the Distribution of Selected Government and Private Funding Sources to New York City Community Districts and Neighborhood Services Providers

Unequal Slices is the first study to look at the relationship between funding, need and equity. It documents the geographic distribution of over $650 million grant dollars from 7 different funding sources including NYC government agencies (Youth, Aging, Employment and Community Development), the Foundation sector, NYS Legislature Member Item and United Way of New York City. This study allows the reader to see how much money was distributed in each community district. Rankings of the 59 community districts for each funding source help the reader to easily make comparisons. Six well known NYC public policy organizations signed a letter of support that appears on the inside cover. A summary of the study was published as a working paper by the Michael Harrington Center for Democratic Values and Social Change at Queens College-CUNY. 153 pages. May, 1997.

It documents court activity over an eight year period- 1988 to 1995. The findings in this Study were reported on in City Limits Magazine, El Diario and the New York Daily News.
